Our Story

What started from a service project now serves hundreds of young women each summer. In 2008, Carla Jorgensen and Debbie Forrest Dayton were asked to be in charge of the service project for Girls’ Camp. They had the girls make inspirational bracelets that would be donated to Fresh Start Women’s Foundation, where women in transition receive various services. As they planned the project, Carla and Debbie discussed another need. They talked about the fact that the girls themselves were facing incredible challenges and they also needed to feel hope and courage in their complicated teen years.

Out of that beginning, Time to Blossom was born.

Time to Blossom empowers young women with inner strength, courage, and confidence to reach their potential and find lasting happiness. Since our first conference in 2010, we have had eight, week-long conferences that have served over 1500 young women. During the conference, young women participate in interactive, integrative, and hands-on activities that stimulate their thinking to discover who they are, who they can become, what their goals can be, and how they can accomplish those goals. The program is tailored to accommodate a variety of topics that are spiritual, social, and educational, and also focus on inner beauty, outer beauty, and leadership, all taught by exceptional speakers who center their talks on the Gospel of Jesus Christ. This unique program is based in Arizona, yet serves young women from all over the United States.

During the week, young women learn what the Spirit is, how to identify when it is present, and how to have it in their daily lives. They have opportunities to gain self-confidence as they recognize, develop, and acknowledge Christ-like characteristics in themselves and others. Young women learn they have a divine mission to fulfill, have unlimited potential, and can do great things in the world because they are exposed to exceptional role models. They learn how to be good leaders, speak and perform in front of audiences, set goals, think on a higher plane, work with others as a team, and overcome challenges. Young women also learn new skills to use throughout their lives, including how to be a good friend, be physically fit and healthy, have a positive body image, and how to act in dining and social situations.

The young women who attend the conference will know they can create a life of joy and happiness. There will be challenges along the way, but as they stay focused and have confidence in themselves, they can create a powerful future and become and do all they desire. After a week of being immersed in testimony-strengthening and uplifting classes and activities, young women will be improved, enlightened, and filled with excitement for what their future holds.

Now that Time to Blossom has been fully established, Debbie and Carla have moved on to other projects and transitioned the conference into very capable hands. Debbie’s husband, Merrill, was called to be a Mission President in Spain and they left to serve in the summer of 2015. Carla, although still involved with the conference, has created another program to reach even more young women.

The conference provides young women with so much good information that we needed to find a way to share it with a larger audience. We not only share the conference talks and ideas on the website, but we have also assembled a group of young adults who write about different topics that pertain to teenage and young adult life. We plan to become the largest site in the world where young women can go to to learn, get inspired, and become educated on positive topics to help them become their best selves.

With the conference and My Time to Blossom, we hope to create a world of strong, confident, and happy young women.
